NEW LYNN.

The last meeting of the New Lynn Town Board as at present constituted took place last evening. There were present:—Messrs. W. L. Titchener (chairman), C. E. H. Putt, R. P. Ward, A. S. Akehurst, J. A. Fielding and I. Hughes. Hoardings.—lt was agreed that when the building by-laws are revised by-laws for hoardings, posters, etc., be revised at the same time, and that under such by-laws the board be given power to prohibit hoardings and posters of any kind except those advertising the name and nature of business of those occupying the premises and that the erection of signs of any kind be subject to the board's discretion.

Whau Bridge Restrictions.—The condition of the roads which form the deviation route owing to the loading restrictions placed on the above bridge was reported upon and as a result the board decided to approach the Main Highways Board for a maintenance subsidy from the time the restrictions were placed on tbe bridge until the new structure is completed.

Expenditure on Works.—With a view to indicating the conditions of finances in regard to works that come under the general account, Mr. Putt submitted a detailed report. Twenty-eight water connections had been put in at an average cost of £1 14/11, showing an average profit of 10/ per connection. The total expenditure out of general account on roads totalled £1343 15/5 out of an allocation of £2801, the rate of expenditure being proportionate with the passage of time. The unexpended balance at the end of August stood at £1457. Plant had earned £194 3/8 from general account, and the annual earnings from this source were expected to reach £400, justifying tbe purchase of plant. Over seven miles of footpaths had been attended to. Loan expenditure:—Binatead Road, £180 10/1; Queen Street, JE43O 12/2; Smith Street, £68 15/10. It appeared that each of these works would be completed within tbe allocation. Mr. Putt was thanked by the board for his report, which was adopted. Appreciation.—At the conclusion of the business the chairman expressed his appreciation of the manner in which the members had assisted him in discharging his duties. In reply all the members congratulated the chairman on the way he had successfully conducted the affairs of the district and referred to the absence of friction.
