BUSINESS TOUR ABROAD.
MR. H. P. C AUG HEY RETURNS INVOLVED IX COLLISION AT SEA. Mr. H. P. C'aughey, of Smith and C'aughey, and vice-president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, returned last evening from a seven months' business trip which included visits to Great Britain, France and the United States. While abroad Mr. Caughev called on many Chambers- of Commerce, and at several places where he was entertained he gave addresses on New Zealand. Both in England. Canada and in America he found members of commercial bodies most interested in the Dominion and anxious to learn as much about it as they could. Mr. Caugliey said ho had returned with a wealth of material which would be helpful to Chambers of Commerce in New Zealand. Mr. Caughev was impressed with the beauty of the English countryside and the parks. He hoped that local bodies in New Zealand would do more in providing parks than they bad done previously, and for individual people to look upon it as their duty to assist. While travelling on the Canadian Pacific liner Montrose in the St. Lawrence River. Mr. Caughev was involved in a collision. At 1.30 in the mornin?. while the majority of the Montrose's 1000 passengers were asleen. the vessel collided with the collier Rose Castle. The impact was a severe one, and passengers were thrown out of their bunks. Although the passengers were excited, there was no panic.
