AMATEUR BILLIARDS.
THE AUCKLAND TITLE. VALENTINE BEATS STEVENSON. The Auckland amateur championship shield tournament was continued at -Billiards, Limited, Rooms on Saturday evening, when H. F. Valentine, ex-New Zealand and Auckland champion, met and defeated C. A. Stevenson, the King Country- champion. Stevenson led in the early stages, bnt when Valentine got to his best form he quickly overhauled the country player, and took the lead at 186. From that point, however, Stevenson showed brilliancy, and at 400 was only 25 behind. Then Valentine finished strongly, to win by 67 points. Stevenson played a line uphill game, but found the task of giving Valentine points over the latter stage of the game beyond him. The final scores were: H. Valentine, 500 (break?, 21, 39, 33, 28, 31, 41. 34, 24, and 24) ; C. A. Stevenson, 433 (breaks, 20, 20. 23. 51, 21, 37, 31, and 23). E. V. Roberts win play E. W. Warren to-night. - ■ =
