MR. W. E. BARNARD. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HELENSVILLE, Saturday. Members of the Helensville Musical Society oil Thursday farewelled the president, Mr. W. E. Barnard, who is leaving shortly for Napier. In making a presentation to Mr. Barnard, the vicepresident, Dr. Matheson, stressed the fact that the society was not always in its present healthy condition. It was due to the tact and perseverance of their president in the society's struggling days that it had been enabled to survive and grow stronger. Mr. R. H. Bretnall, L.A.8., the conductor, also spoke in similar terms. Mr. Barnard thanked the members for the gift and the kind remarks on what he had done for the society. It had always been a real pleasure to him. The success of the society was really due to the loyal support given by the members. He would cherish tjieir gift»as a memento of his happy connection with the society, which had bright prospects. CONSTABLE R. BOAG. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAPAROA, Saturday. Constable R. Boag, of Maungaturoto, whose police district includes Paparoa and its neighbourhood and who is leaving to take charge of the New Lynn station, after eighteen years' residence, was farewelled at a large gathering in the Garrison Hall last night. Mr. R. Coates, chairman of the Otamatea County Council, on behalf of the residents, asked Constable Boag's acceptance of a set of brushes suitably inscribed, and of a silver cake dish for Mrs. Boag. Constable Boag thanked the gathering, and in. an interesting speech testified to the assistance he had received from the settlers, which had materially helped his work. He recalled having done strenuous.work among the Public Works employees on the northern line, and paid a tribute to the law-abiding character of, and the absence of larrikinism among, the rising generation of the district, who are a credit to the community. Constable Boag's work in charge of the Maungaturoto station has won hijrh praise from the Department.
