PAKURANGA HUNT.

Followers of the bunt had quite an enjoyable outing with the hounds on Saturday when the meet at mid-day was at "Glendowie," St. Helier's, adjacent to the residence of the master. Mr. H. Bullock-Web-ster. About the usual number of follower* turned out. and a touch of added colour was given to the green hill sides of this particularly picturesque locality by the horses, hounds and riders. Conspicuous amongst the latter were to be seen the gay pink hunting coats of the master, huntsman and the whip, while the various coloured motor cars of frienus and supporters of the hunt in. considerable numbers on the roads, lent further animation to the pleasing landscape view. Glendowie and the surrounding countryside has in past years been closely associated with the sport of huntiag, and although these times have changed somewhat. there seemed still to lie a fair area of country to be hunted over. The wire fences and stone walls had received some preparation from some local enthusiasts ia anticipation of the hunt, and all seemed to augur well for sport. Scent was, however, found to be persistently bad, most likely attributable to the recent rain or M the high, keen wind blowing in from the sea. Huntsman and bounds persevered in their efforts to find a hare, and worked over all the paddocks adjacent to the golf links most diligently, txU without remit, which was somewhat hard to account for am several likely places for hares to frequent were drawn. Riders were, however, able to Sive their horses plenty of exercise and t* indulge in plenty of jumping over fences at various descriptions. Hounds were taken up about 2.30 p.m., and the Master (Mr. Bullock-Webster) extended a cordial invito tion to the followers and their Mends tm partake of afternoon tea at Us residency "Glendowie House." A very enjoyable time was spent by all who accepted th« invitation and also in inspecting the *»* old home and the interesting collection <5 well-known paintings and sporting picturM and prints on the walls of the rooms. Df. '•rant and Mr. Adams expressed thanks o* behalf of the hunt to Mr. and Mrs. Bullock\\ebster for their hospitality, and Mr. Bol-lock-Webster gave some very interesting reminiscences of hunting in the St. Helier's district many years ago. and in particular of previous occasions the entertaining the hunt by a former owner at "Glendowti House, m the days of that well-rememberef huntsman, the late Tom Brown.
