Lott and Henncssy advanced to the third round of the doubles by defeating Tapia and Unba (Mexico), 6—o, o—o, 6—2. The Cummings-Moon victory over the French players is considered here a startling upset, particularly 6ince Borotra and de Buzlet yesterday defeated Higgs and Collins, the English pair. The French were erratic, and although occasionally playing dashing tennis they were unable to cope with the steady, vigorous attack of the Australians. There was constant loss of service in the first set until Cummings won the fourth to make the score 3—2. Tho Austra l: ans quickly piled up a 5—3 lead, but the Frenchmen were twice within a point of pulling the set out of danger. Iu the ninth game they won it, to make the score 5—4 when the Australians both netted the two finai points of the game. Cummings' serving was decisive in the tenth game, which was won on three French errors and a terrific smash by Moon. Games alternated with service in the second set until it stood 3 all. Borotra lost his service in the seventh game, giving the Australians a. 4—3 lead and games then went with the service. Cummings was trailing in the tenth game 15 to 40, but recovered and ran out a winner, game and set. The Frenchmen were now so erratic that defeat was inevitable, while the Australians were driving between them and to the side lines. The third set was standing at 5—3 when the Frenchmen won on Borotra's service, his smashes and recoveries being spectacular, but Moon took his service in the tenth game, Borotra netting the final point.
