NORFOLK CHEESE SUPPLIES.

COMPANY'S ANNUAL MEETING

A SUCCESSFUL SEASON

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday

The thirteenth annual meeting of suppliers to the Norfolk Dairy Company (cheese) was held at Motumaoho yesterday, Mr. S. Ferguson, chairman of directors, presiding. Reviewing t>he past season, the chairman said the cheese was sold f.ojb. except about 50 tons which was disposed of at the factory door for the manufacture of processed cheese. The prices did not turn out so well as if sold on consignment, ! but the company had been able to pay higher advance* and an earlier final payment. The outlook generally was very bright for cheese producers for a number of years to come, provided the quality was maintained, as England had to look to New Zealand for the bulk of her supplies. The average grade for last season was 91.5, no second grade cheese being made. The subscribed capital was £9832 and the overdraft was being reduced at the rate of £200 a year. A dividend of 5 per cervt on the amount paid up on shares to June 30 was declared. The retiring directors, Messrs. W. F. Stark and R. H. Hinton, were elected unopposed. Mr. R. English was re-eleoted auditor. Criticism of the high levy of the Dairy Control Board was made by several suppliers. The chairman (a new member of the board) expressed the opinion that the Government and merchants' representatives should be cut out. The latter was certainly not there for the benefit of the producers. As for the producers' representatives he urged that the number be not reduced. The territory represented was considerable, and these men served the useful purpose of guarding the interests of the producers. It was decided to write to the Minister of Agriculture protesting against the heaviness of the levies, aud urging that producers' representatives only be included on the personnel of the board.
