THE MONEY MARKET.
MORATORIUM IN VICTORIA
The Labour Government of Victoria recently by legislation forced a moratorium on the State. The Postponement of Payments Act has not met with the approval of the business community, who are most affected by the legislation. Recently a meeting was held of representatives of the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, the Victorian Chamber of Manufacturers, the Victorian Employers' Federation, Victorian Master Drapers' Association, Victorian Hardware Association, Stock and Station Agents' Association, Melbourne Woolbrokers' Association, Lav.- institute of Victoria, and many ot':<*r a? M-iations. The Chamber of Commerce was deputed to bring the matter again before the Government, expressing the emphatic disapproval of the business community of the postponement of payments legislation. "A drastic interference with contractual obligations and rights," it was agreed, "is justifiable in any community only in time of grave crisis, and was quite unwarranted, as well ns unnecessary, in the, circunurtancea existing in the State."
