"TOO OPTIMISTIC."
TUBERCULOSIS COMMITTEE. VALUE OF HOME TREATMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDLN, this day. Speaking at a meeting of the Otago Hospital Board, Dr. Lyth, medical director of the Tuberculosis Institution, commented on the Tuberculosis Inquiry Committee's report. He stated that the policy of retaining patients longer than the period intended originally was forecd on superintendents by the unsatisfactory results of a brief educational treatment. Ihe average length of stay of patients at the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium was more than double that of 1912, and the result had been gratifying in reducing the number of relapses." ° ® r - Lyth said that in his opinion the committee was too optimistic about the possibilities of home treatment.
