LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. RICHMOND CLUB PROTESTS. A TRY DISPUTED. Members of the Aackland Rugby League's Management Committee met last evening, Mr. G. Rhodes presiding. The Richmond Club wrote protesting that the official in charge of its game with Ponsonby on Saturday had made an error of judgment in the interpretation of the laws of the game. The incident referred to was an alleged knock-on by a Ponsonby player when time was up. There was no whistle and Ponsonby scored a try and converted, the game ending in a draw. There was some discussion as to whether Richmond's protest was in order, and it was finally decided that the Judicial Committee's finding that a protest against a referee's ruling could not be discussed be upheld, but it was stated that Richmond could appeal against the decision. A spectator at Saturday's games wrote reporting the bad temper shown by a Richmond player. It was stated that members of the Judicial Committee bad Been the offence. It was decided to request the player to attend a meeting of the Judicial Committee on Saturday prior to the dub games. Mr. G. Rhodes was appointed delegate to represent the League on the proposed formation of an Olympic Club. Permission was granted the Northcote Club to visit Hamilton on September 15. A request from the district railways engineer for the provision of a high galvanised iron fence along the top of the railway embankment on the Boundary of Carlaw Park was left in the hands of the chairman to report. The chairman and secretary were appointed to join a deputation to wait upon the City Council in reference to the theft of clothing from public grounds. The unsatisfactory condition of the playing area at Devonport was referred to in a report from the Referees' Association, which stated that it was impossible to play matches on the ground, owing to the presence of pools of water. It was reported that the Devonport Club had the matter in hand, but the Borough Council had taken no action.
