ANNUAL CONFERENCE. INCREASE OF COMPETITORS. The annual conference of delegates to the New Zealand Boxing Council is in session this afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. E. A. Craig presiding. According to the report presented, fortythree local associations are members, more than half of which confine their energies to amateur boxing, while those who stage professional contests also actively assist the sport amongst colleges, territorials and schools. The direct revenue of the Boxing Council from amateur tournaments was £49, and the expenditure by direct grant was £170, while individual associations gave assistance to amateur boxing to the extent of £2000. In addition to increased amateur tournaments there was an increase of 200 in the number of contests, and just on 1500 amateur boxers were registered. Although the financial year had been a lean one. the championship account stood at £713 and the general account at £88. The council especially desired to thank the military authorities for the whole-hearted manner in which they fostered amateur boxing in all centres. The Treslon Shield was at present held by the Canterbury Military Sports Club. At the Olympic Games the New Zealand boxers were represented by E. Morgan and A. J. Cleverley, both of Wellington. Cleverley, at his own request, worked his passage to England.
