LAWS GOVERNING HEALTH. LECTURE ON PSYCHOLOGY. • - t A crowded hall and many turned away was the experience of Mm. Phoebe Marie Holmes, teacher of psychology, at her lecture last evening in the concert haH of Lewis Eady, Limited. Speaking on the subject of the laws governing health, the lecturer aaid that the four main causes of disease were incorrect thinking, eating, breathing and sleeping. "All our lives," said the lecturer, "we have been preparing to die. When we prepare to live and know how to do it to our fullest capacity we &hall live both long and happily. There are millions who are walking the streets to-day who are not really conscious of the fact that they are living." The art of living, the speaker said, was coming to be better known throughout the world. In the United States there were 1800 men who had attained to the age of 100 or passed it, and many of them were going to business every day. "Why," 6he added amidst laughter, a | man should be in his prime at 80." Making mention of the fact that hflp I own life had been despaired of, tha speaker said that, following an instan* taneous core, she had daring the past ten years taken 35 years off her own. life. She spoke as the mother of a son aged 41 and the grandmother of a girl approaching her 21st year. The speaker laid great stress upon the importance of eating the right kinds of food. *Sha said that when people reached the age of 40 or over they no longer needed taa body-building foods which were necessary while they were growing. The trouble with far too many people waa that they ate over much carbonised foods. Small wonder that the complaint of high-blood pressure was prevalent. The importance of correct breathing was also emphasised in order to '".lirow off what was no longer required in the body and so as to keep the blood stream pure. Rhythmic solar plexus breathing was advised by the speaker. The power of thought and the effects of visualisation were touched on with novel illustrations and the lecturer gave various hints on how to rebuild the body so as to maintain health, strength and vitality. She declared that by knowing the proper methods it was possible for a person to consciously build a new body in the space of a year. At the. conclusion of the lecture several questions were answered and mention was made of further lectures to be givea during the next two or three days.
