FESTIVE FIREMEN.
STEAMER DELAYED. ONE MAX WOUNDED. THROAT CUT WITH RAZOR. Returning to their ship about an hour later than her echeduled sailing time, a party of firemen of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port ilowen, held high carnival aboard for the early part of the evening. The usual horseplay and free-for-all fight was staged, but later in the evening there was considerable excitesnent when on© of the men received a gash in the throat from a razor. The St. John Ambulance was called to take iiim to the hospital, where it was found that the injury was not serious. Six stitches were inserted anl the man returned to the ship. Meanwhile a police constable visited the vessel, but the m»n declared thai, the wound had been quite accidentally inflicted and no action <vas taken. The Port Bowen sailed for Napier this morning, but later it was discovered that one of the crew had been left behind. He declared that his shipmates had "set on" to him and forced him to seek shelter ashore. He spent the night in the Sailors' Home. Interviewing the local agents, ha stated that he would not be welcomed back aboard the ship, but in spite of his evident reluctance, arrangements were made for him to rejoin her at Napier.
