"DISGRACEFUL DISPLAY."

STOPPAGES FOR INJURIES. DUFTY IN FORM. 11»>- Telegraph.—Special to "Si;ir."i DUNEDIN, Saturday. Never before in the history of Dunedin has such a disgraceful display of football been seen as was that witnessed in the second League Test in the Caledonian grounds. Practically every five minutes the play was stopped while some player received attention, and the game culminated in Burgess being ordered off.

The crowd made little effort to hide their disgust.

In the early stages, except for some very fast rushes, the game was very slow, and at times it stopped altogether. As spirits warmed up the play became faster, but injuries delayed it. Dufty played a good game and initiated many good movements, but they failed to reach their objective. Scott was a slashing player, and made some great sprints down the line. The tackling of both sides was poor. Players made a habit of waiting to see what the man with the ball was going to do, instead of jumping in and grassing him.

The New Zealand scrum work was better than the Englishmen's, but the latter excelled in the loose, and outran the blacks.

Owing to the frequent delays, the spectators lost interest in the game, and waited in anticipation of the next bout. Wetherill, a nippy little player, came in for considerable attention. He and Morton on one occasion had to be separated and held back.

Sullivan had several shots at goal, which were unsuccessful, otherwise the score against New Zealand would have been much greater. Taken all round, England had the better of the game, their pace standing them in good stead.
