WAIKATO NOTES

Mrs. H. W. Matthews, of Hill''rest, Hamilton, is spending a holiday at Rotorua. Mrs. G. Woolley, of Whangarei, is the gunst of her sister, Mrs. H. Grilfiths, Claudelands. Mrs. Hepburn, and Miss Hepburn, of Sydney, are the guests of Mrs. P. E. Cleary, Queen's Avenue, Hamilton. Miss Olive Smith, of Taumarunui, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. C. Sutclifl'e, Hamilton West. Mrs. R. G. Guy, of Hamilton, is away oil a visit to Rotorua. Miss F. Peacocke has returned to Hamilton from a visit to Napier. Mrs. E. H. Marsurt, of Wellington, is staying in Hamilton. Miss Pirritt has returned to Hamilton from a visit to England and the Continent.

The annual Hunt Ball was held at Cambridge on Friday evening, and was a very smart function. The decorations were on a most lavish scale, and the tables in the supper room were very daintily decorated and arranged. Visitors were present from all parts of the district. An afternoon tea was given by Miss Erena Ward on Thursday for her guest, Miss A. Hare, of Feilding. The rooms were decorated with spring bulbs, and a dainty tea was served. The competitions were won by Miss Freena ClaytonGreene and Miss Dorothy Wilson. Those present were: Misses E. Xorris, H. Heywood, B. Manning, K. Wilson, D. Yule, F. Clayton-Greene, C. Chitty, E. Guy, M. Clayton-Greene, E Wilson and K. Oliver.

On Friday afternoon, Mrs. H. Griffiths, of Kitchener Street, Claudelands, gave a bridge afternoon in hcuour of her guest, Mrs. George Woolley, of Whangarei. The rooms were decorated with beautiful purple and red anemones. The prize-winners were:—Mrs. Montgomery and Mrs. R. H. Boyd. Those present were:—Mesdames H. T. Gillies, J. W. Smith, P. G. The Pirongia spinsters gave an enjoyable dance in the ball on Wednesday evening, when there was a large attendance of dancers. Those present were: Mesdames P. Allport, J. Livingstone, T. C. Grace, T. A jolly little bridge evening was given by Mrs. H. J. McMullin, River Road, Claudelands, on Friday. Those present were:—Mesdames A. English, C. Sutcliffe, F. Beehan, J. E. Chitty, H. J. Greenslade, J. G. Mackay, and Miss Stevens.

A jolly birthday party to celebrate Miss Ida Alker's coming-of-age was held at "Beerescourt," the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Alker. A happy time was spent dancing and playing games. A suprise party visited the home of Mrs. Ken. Rickit, at Te Awamutu. on Wednesday, and spent the afternoon at bridge. The prizes were won by Mrs. Jefferey, highest score, and Mrs. Bowden, consolation. Those present were: Mesdames H. Mandeno, Reece, J. McGovern, Armstrong, S. Rickit, R. Lord, F. Hall, Brooks, Hawkins, J. Dawson, Lane, Griffiths, Misses J. Elliott, R. Lord, Walter, S. Empson, and Teasdale.
