MASTER MARINERS.
ASSOCIATION FORMED.
The formation of the New Zealand Company of Master Mariners has been interesting a number of master mariners for some time, and last month the first steps were taken in Dunedin, where the company was formed. The primary object of the association is to bring together throughout the Dominion all master mariners, to foster the spirit of mutual interest, and to watch the interests of its members. His Excellency the Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergusson) has consented to occupy the position of patron, and Sir Francis Dillon Bell that of vicepatron. The secretary is Captain J. Mac Lean, harbourmaster at Dunedin, and the following are oUlcers of the committee: —Captains Robert Fraser (chairman), McDonald, W. J. King, N. Beaumont and F. G. Duncan. ■ The badge of the company is a squarerigged ship in full sail, with a kiwi] beneath, enclosed in a circle, round the rim of which the name of the company, and the mottoes, "Deeds, Xot Words" on the upper half, and "Fear] God and Honour the King" on the lower portion. Membership to the New Zealand company will not be limited to holders of master mariners' certificates only, but power is granted io the committee to enrol any others they think fit.
