TO SKI AT RUAPEHU.
A THRILLING SPORT.
TOURNAMENT IN SEPTEMBER.
ANNUAL MEETING OF CLUB.
The annual sports tournament of the Ruapehu Ski Club will this year be held in September instead of in August. As usual the. rendezvous will be Whakapapa, Tongariro, National Park, and the sports will extend from September 19 to 30. Devotees are looking forward to ten days of thrilling sport as well as to a happy reunion of club members. The fifteenth annual general meeting of the club is to be held in Wanganui on the evening of Tuesday, August 28. This year the principal officers of the club reside in Wanganui and Auckland. Mr. W. Salt is the president and Mr. L. M. Lennard the secretary. The club's annual report shows that with addition of 19 new members there is a total of 157 on the roll. Funds have been conserved because of a prospective heavy expenditure on the proposed, ski course and the financial position of the club is very satisfactory. Last August a party of 54 members to*k part in the annual tournament and enjoyed the most successful rally that has been held. Auckland won the Drew Cup, with Wellington second and Taranaki third. Honours in the Salt Challenge Shield' competition were divided by Messrs. W. Salt and L. M. Lennard.
Tlie committee expresses pleasure with the decision of the National Park Board to erect the proposed new hostel at Whakapapa. Regret is expressed that a postponement of the date for the annual sports this year had been necessary because of the available accommodation having been booked by other parties. However, the board has ruled that in future when two or more clubs apply for the same dates the matter will be decided bv ballot.
