GUILTY CONSCIENCE?
ACCUSED MAN'S SUICIDE. There was a sensational sequel to a case at Worthing, where Harold Fuente and Ernest James Scarce were summoned for obtaining money from two of their customers by false pretences. It was alleged that the defendants had been supplying ordinary milk as certified milk, and that the police found on their premises large stocks of capsules and discs for certified milk which they were not entitled to use. Counsel for the prosecution described the case as a gigantic fraud on the public. When the Court resumed after the luncheon adjournment. Scarce, who had managed the business, did not appear, and the magistrate issued a warrant for his arrest, adjourning the case against Fuente. In the afternoon, however. Scarce was found dead in a bath over a shop recently vacated by defendant's firm.
