SWOONED IN COURT.
MOTHER USES CHILDREN TO HELP HER STEAL. A remarkable story of how a woman used her children to assist her in stealing from shops was told at Plymouth Police Court. Mrs. Alice Lamb (48) of Blandford Road. Compton, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for stealing a pair of lady's shoes, a pot of jam, two jellies, and three pots of paste, valued at 12/2. the property of 'Messrs. Spooners, Ltd., Plymouth, on June 2. Mr. J. L. Wolferstan said a great number of thefts had taken place at Messrs. Spooners within the past few months, and information reached the staff manager, in consequence of which defendant was watched by a detective and was actually seen by him to transfer something «from the boot department into the bag she was carrying.
The worst feature of the case was that defendant was accompanied by her daughter, Phyllis (121, and tlie girl was shielding the bag carried by her mother in order that the articles might be placed into it unseen.
When the sentence was announced, defendant collapsed in the box and had to be assisted from the court.
