SPEEDING ON SOUTH ROAD.

SERVICE DRIVERS FINED.

WEEKLY MOTOR PARADE. For speeding down the Great South Road between the Harp of Erin junction and PemOM, two service car drivers were e.vTi fined £4 and costs at the Magistrate's Court this morning by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. For the prosecution it was stated that C. Dent, one of the drivers, was doing 40 miles an hour on the concrete road, and the other, J. Miidgcwav, passed him as a speed of 44 miles an hour. The prosecuting official, Mr. J. Tread gold, said that although there were no dangerous intersections on this part of the highway, there were school children on the road at the time. Other cases of dangerous driving dealt with were:—E. J. Crouther, who was doing 3S miles per hour on a motor cycle. £4 and costs: X. T. Hansen, £2 and costs; F. G. Wain, £1 and costs; C. A. Paul, £1 and costs N. Hughes, £1 and costs; and W. H. A. Blundell, £1 and costs. For leaving car unattended A. H. J. Parker was fined 10/ and costs, and the same penalty was also imposed upon A. V. Swales and G. Kermode. I"or failing to obey a traffic officer H. Barton. F. Rhodes, W. Ousley and J. Muir were each fined £1 and costs. A. Flaxinan, for failing to give a signal while turning, was fined £1 and costs. S. Cavalier and L. Christian, for turning to the right, were each fined 10/ and costs. N. A. McCulloch, for passing a vehicle on a bridge, R. E. Petrie, for leaving car too near corner. L. A. Wood, for leaving car on unauthorised stand, R. Priestley, for causing obstruction, H. Liddle, driving without license, and J. Paton, for cutting inside traffic dome, were each fined 10/ and costs. H. C. Puckev. for driving an unlicensed vehicle and plying for hire without license, was fined £1 and costs on each charge. V. Wilson, for having no front light on motor cycle, and no tail light, was fined 10/ and costs on each charge. Arising out of the same set of circumstances, W. McQuoid, for not showing unladen weight on lorrv. and permitting use of unlicensed lorry, and F. E. Soon, the driver of the lorry, for operating an unlicensed lorr van'd driving lorry in excess of 12 m.p.m., were each ordered to pay costs in each case. A charge under the new motor regulations, that of a garage proprietor failing to keep a register of vehicles let out on hire, was brought against L. D. Clark. In view of the circumstances Mr. Hunt ordered the defendant to pay costs only. POLICE CASES. A large number of motorists and others who had broken the city bylaws appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the downstairs Court this morning. Sub-Inspector McCarthy prosecuted. The following were deftlt with on charges of speeding:—Peter W. Gardner and Thomas William Robinson, were each fined £3 and costs; John Watson, Harold William Wilson, lan B. Stewart, Wallace A. Scarfe and Alfred H. S. Lamb, £1 10/, plus costs; Rupert A. Colyer, Thomas Giles, £1 and costs, while the following were each fined 10/ and costs: Eric F. Lisk, Arthur T. Newdick and Frederick W. Rout. For not having a number-plate on his lorry, Desmond Kelly was fined 10/ and costs, while for passing a stationary tram-car, William F. Handlev, was fined £2 and costs. Failing to keep to the left cost Sydney T. Treglown 20/ and costs. A large number were fined for having insufficient lights, and also for leaving their cars too long unattended in city streets. ,
