CRIPPLE'S DEATH.
STRUCK BT MOTOR CAR.
DRIVER HELD BLAMELESS,
An inquest into the circumfltances surrounding the death of William Malam Pirritt, a cripple who was fatally injured in a collision between his chair a-nd a motor car on the Great North Road on the night of July 7, was heard by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., to-dar.
Constable Hogan, stationed at Avondale, stated that William Frank Shaw called at his house and reported that he had knocked over a rrmn at New Lynn. He examined the chair in which Pirritt was travelling at the time, and found the only dai age was a buckled right wheel. The rain was pouring down at the time of the accident.
Shaw stated that when nearly opjx>site Latham's garago he saw a motor car approaching with very bri"' headlights. It was dark and raining and Mowing. He felt a slight bumn. and ■was driving on when he heard a scream. He was driving slowly and pulled up in abo t ten to fifteen feet.
Dr. E-eanor Abbott saWl the cause of death was due to heart failure, pleurisy, jhock and concussion.
Mr. McKean. S.M.. returned a verdict In accordance with the medical testimony. He said the driver of the ear wa« driving «lowlv and keopinT a proper look-out. There was no light on the rhair. There was no blame attachable to him.
