HEMP, TALLOW, WOOL, ETC. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated July 21, from the High Commissioner, for New Zealand, London: — Hemp.—Manila: The market is dull and depressed. "J" grade, August-October shipment, closing price, £30 15/. Output January 1 to June 30, 702,000 bales, against 6-35,000 for the same period last year. Stocks in Manila on July 30 were 153,000 bales, against 135,000; in Britain, 31,232, against 6562. The sisal market is very quiet; afloat No. 1 offered at £33 10/, but the value for the July shipment is £34, and No. 2 £32 5/. The New Zealand market is quiet, and values are unchanged. Closing prices: Highpoints, £31; fair, £28 5/; rejected, £26 5/; two No. 2, £20; No. 3, ■£17 10/; July-August shipment. Apples.—Shipments ex Maimoa, Port Dnnedin, and Tamaroa are on the market. There was some waste in Statesman and Ballarat seedling and Sturmcr. Mature trade is fairly good. London prices: Sturmer, 11/ to 13/ per case; Rokewood, Dougherty, Tasman and Statesman, 12/ to 15/; Ballarat Seedling, 12/ to 14/. Pear*. —Ex lonic (withdrawn from cold storage), Josephine, Winter Nelis, 8/ to 10/ per tray; P. Barry, 6/ to 7/ per tray; Winter Cole. 6/ per tray. Tallow.—The market is quiet and the demand is moderate. Present quotations are:—Mutton, fine, 42/ to 43/ per cwt; fair to good, 41/ to 42/6 per cwt; dark to dull, 38/ to 38/9 per cwt; beef, sweet and/or mixed, 42/6 to 45/ per cwt; fair to good, 39/ to 42/ per cwt; dark to dull, 37/ to 38/ per cwt; mixed, fair to good, 39/ to 41/9 per cwt; dark to dull. 37/ to 38/ per cwt; gut, etc., 36/ to 38/9 per cwt.

Values were close about the opening level. Xcw Zealand Merino creasy met with a poor demand, and declined about five per cent. Fine crossbred was five per cent lower, and medium and coarse crossbred unchanged. Slipe offerings, heavy, fine, and medium, closed 5 per cent lower, and coarse about par.
