LOCAL BODIES.

PUKEKOHX BOROUGH COUNCIL The Mayor, Mr. John Routley. presided at last night's meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council. The Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Bill was considered, and it wa6 decided to strongly oppose any steps that might be taken with a view of drawing Pukekohe into the matter. The council's decision is to be communicated to the Prime Minister and the member for Franklin. Mr. G. A. Green, of Auckland, solicited the council's assistance in obtaining signatures to a petition for presentation to the Prime Minister, urging that a water board be set up, with a view of formulating proposals and taking such action as would ensure an ample water supply at all seasons of the year for the Auckland district. A reply is to be sent to the effect that evidence was given before the Water Commission that Pukekohe was already supplied with water at a lesseT cost than the estimated cost of awater supply from Auckland district generally, and for that reason the council lias no intention of taking any part in the movement suggested by the proposed petition to the Prime Minister regarding the setting up of a water board for Auckland and district.

It was decided to levy rates totalling 3d in the £ for the current year. The amount is the same as that imposed last year.

The question of relieving the flooding 111 Manukau Road was considered and deferred until April next. It was stated this work would cost about £170.

The Works Committee was asked to consider the advisability of installing a storm water channel in Ward Street for a distance 01 about 21 chains. It wai stated the work would cost about £350. The foreman was instructed to erect a cattle-proof fence at the back of the Memorial Park. franklin County Council acknowledged receipt of the board's letter re lorries running in the town board area without heavy traffic licenses.
