DAIRY PRODUCE TRANSPORT.
BY RAIL. OR BY SEA ? . POLL OF SUPPLIERS TAKEN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WHAJvATANE, this day. A poll of the suppliers of the Rangitaiki Dairy Company is being taken to decide whether the company's produce should be transported to Auckland by rail or by sea. The directors of the company had decided to ship the produce from Whakatane, and while thejuare obliged to grant the demand for a poll they say that in the event of a majority voting in favour of rail transport they will not be prepared to remain in office to give effect to a policy which, in their opinion, is contrary to the best interests of the company. Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of railways, who was accompanied by Mr. D. Rodic. commercial manager, and ill". A. \\. Wel Isted, business agent at Auckland, in response to an invitation from shareholders who favoured rail carriage, addressed a meeting of 100 suppliers to-day. Mr. Sterling asserted that the railway provided the better service for the carriage of butter. On ethical and economical grounds he urged that the railway should be supported, for tlie railway had unlocked the Rangitaiki Plains.
