CLEVER OPERATION.
BONE GRAFTING ON THE SPINE. (United Service.) (Ileceived 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 22. An operation, which it is believed will firovn a permanent cure ot what was i lircatened to be a hopeless case of tubeiculosis of the spine, has been. performed bv a voiin;' .surgeon at Dudley Koad Hospital, Birmingham. He grafted a 10ineh piece from a bone obtained from a local butcher into the spine of Harry Harris, aged .">O. a farm labourer, who lias been semi-paralysed and bedridden for two years. Harris has resumed work, and walks (en miles daily. Ihe surgeon made a cardboard model, arid the hospital carpenter cut the bone to the pattern. Then Ihe surgeon inserted it in the spine, and gradually Harris was able to move about. Other similar operations have since been performed oil less serious cases.
