While for the: entire year. 1927. the profits oi' the motor ■ industry increased six per cent, over 1920. j ;this increase was far more than accounted , for by the improvement in the profit position of the General Motors Corpora-I tion. The other companies in the aggre- i i gate suffered a decline of 20 per cent, for ! the entire period of 1927, as compared with 1926. The recent figures, however, very deli-. nitely indicate an improvement for the: industry as a whole. For the first quarter ' of 1928, General Motors reports net profits I ot about 69 millions as compared with 52' millions for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of 32 per cent. The ' improvement in the aggregate of the other I companies is also marked. The combined j net income of 17 motor vehicle maiiu-i jfacturers exclusive of General Motors, j shows 'mi increase of 20 per cent in the j first quarter of l!i2S. over the correspond- ■ : ing period for 1927. '
