DAVIS CUP.
Final Preliminary Matches Started. U.S.A. WINS FIRST SINGLES. (Australian Press Assn. —United Service.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 20. In the Davis Cup final preliminary Hunter (America) beat Gaslini (Italy), 6—l, 6—l, 6—o. Hennessey beat De Morpurgo 6—l, i—s, 6—2. TILDEN IN TENNIS. A LOSS TO THE GAME. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) LONDON, July 20. The "Moruiug Post" says: Amateur lawn tennis without Tilden's cannonball services and virile virtuosity in stroke production will be duller than it has ever been since he first came to Wimbledon. We sincerely hope he will soon be reinstated. Players who write about the game, with or without a time limit, ought not to be the first objective of an attack on veiled professionalism.
