CAMBRIDGE.

CAMBRIDGE. Friday. BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting nf the Cambridge Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. T. F. Richards) presiding. The Works Committee recommended that the council giv« consideration to the extending of the sewerage system. The Mayor said that with Mr. James and the engineer they had been over the borough and had taken levels. It was roughly estimated that to provide a scheme to meet the future requirements of the borough and to include 370 houses would entail an expenditure of £ 15.500. Mr. Richards stated that If a loan was raised he anticipated that it would not be necessary to strike more than a farthing rate. The fees yould provide for the balance of interest and sinking fund. Mr. Case did not like the idea of going on with the scheme without placing it before a poll of ratepavers. The Ma yur said the extension misrht be forced on the council by the Health Department. If this did not occur he would certainly favour the placing of the schome before the ratepayers. No action was taken. A letter was received from the Palmerston North Borough Council re the need for a revision of the hospital management and administration anil board representation. It was the general opinion of the council that the present system of securing revenue for hospital administration was inequitable and that it should come out of the Consolidated Fund. Decided to advise writers accordingly. DIAMOND JUBILEE. The diamond Jubilee of St. Paul's Methodist Church. Cambridge, will be celebrated next month, and special services, concerts and other forms of recognition are being arranged. The monthly meeting of the Leamington Town Board was held yesterday. Mr. W. Richmond presiding. Strong exception was taken by the chairman at the remarks of Mr. Glanville, at a recent council meeting, that people in Leamington, appeared to be ignorant regarding the best manner in which to effect repairs to the High Level bridge. The board were still of the opinion that the work of painting and chipping the bridge could have been done by contract, thus reducing expenditure in maintenance. It was agreed to write the council requesting that in future contributing local bodies be advised before any work is carried out on the bridge: also that they be supplied with copies of the Public Works Department's inspection reports. DOMAIN BOARD. At the monthly meeting of the Cambridge Domain Board yesterday the chairman and members strongly commented on the untidy state of the courts at the Domain. The weed-strewn clay courts and the untidy state of the others were a disgrace to the Tennis Club. After discussion. It was resolved that the club be informed that if they do not look after the courts better the board will resume control and run the courts on the same lines as at Rotorua and Te Aroha.
