DAYLIGHT SAVING.
OUTLOOK NOT BRIGHT.
ITS OPPONENTS HOPEFUL.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday.
With his Slimmer Time Bill due for its second reading next Wednesday, Mr. T. K. Sidey has been a busy member. Unfortunately for his prospects of success there is no reason to suppose that the three supporting members whose changed views were announced recently have been reconverted to summer time. There are two other doubtfuls, and the opposition, headed by Mr. W. Glenn (Rangitikei) is becoming hopeful of defeating the measure even on the second reading, which is sometimes allowed to go without division, the real test coming on the vital clauses in committee. The position of the bill is so hazardous t 1 t Mr. Sidey is reported to be willing to make a compromise with his opponents, who retort that they are going to fight. They do not claim an actual majority against the bill at this stage, but declare that at best Mr. Sidey's success depends on so narrow a margin that a very slight mishap, such as the absence of a favourable vote, would mean defeat.
