INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
OVERCROWDING IN HOSPITAL. FFSFONSE TO AUCKLAND PROTEST. MINISTER TAKES ACTION. "We liave been hammering away for more accommodation for infectious disease cases at the Auckland Hospital since February, 1925," said Mr. William Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, this morning. Mr. Wallace said Dr. Watt, the acting DirectorGeneral of Public Health at that time, when 011 a visit to Auckland early in 1!)25, considered that the accommodation for such cases was inadequate, but he would be satisfied if 150 beds were provided. Experience had proved that, for infectious diseases, one bed was required for every thousand of the population. This week the Auckland Hospital Board sent a protest to the Minister of Public Health, complaining of the delay in the building of an infectious diseases hospital. Mr. Wallace received a telegram this morning from the Minister, the Hon. J. A. Young, stating he had instructed the Director-General, Dr. T. H. A. Valintine, to get in touch with t!"» Auckland Hospital Board for the | I pose of expediting matters in connection with the erection of the proposed infectious diseases hospital.
