AUCKLAND'S HISTORY.
A STORY OF PROGRESS. UNFOLDED IN THE " STAR." WEEKLY SERIES OF ARTICLES. Citizens of no mean city, Aucklanders know too little of the history and development of their town and province. It is an astounding story of progress from scrub-clad hillside to thriving town, with a population approximating the quarter of a million mark, and those who enjoy the amenities which have followed its development should know something of the hardships and struggles of the pioneers, something of the fighting which was a great feature of the early settlement days, and something of the progress which followed the peace between Maori and Pakelia. That story has been told by a, member of the staff of the Auckland "Star," who is exceptionally well qualified, by research and personal association, to undertake the task and he has compiled an absorbingly interesting tale of adventure and enterprise. Its publication will begin in the Auckland "Star" on Page 0 on Tuesday next, and will be continued weekly on that day. As well as appealing* to adults, the history should supply a long felt want —the need for a picturesque and authoritative account of the growth of their native city to supplement the historical studies of the rising generation. Schools in the city and province will find in this series an invaluable aid to the teaching of history, and the articles will be well worth filing for future reference.
