TOWN PLANNING.
ITS MAIN FEATURES
An interesting lecture on "Town Planning," illustrated with lantern slides, was delivered at Onehunga last night by Mr. F. V. Blake. Mr. H. J. Davies, J.P., presided.
Mr. Blake showed how a partlydeveloped suburb like Papatoetoe could be saved from the fate of so many other places.if only town planning were taken in hand! in time. Featifres emphasised were the paucity of parks in Auckland, except in the city itself, and the consequent advisability of securing every open area that was still available. Mr. Blake showed how a relatively small area devoted to a children's playground, like Nicholson Park at Mount E<Jen, would really give more pleasure to a larger number than thousands of acres in an almost inaccessible position. Dealing witji traffic problems, Mr. Blake made suggestions as to how the congestion at the Grafton Bridge could be avoided at a fairly small Expense. The lecturer concluded by a warning against the shortsighted policy of building workers' cottages alongside the raliway at Papatoetoe. The lecture was delivered under the auspices of the Onehunga - Manukau Chamber of Commerce. Mr. H. J. Davies, the president, said it had been listened to with pleasure by all present. On the motion of the Mayor (Mr. W. C. Coldicutt) Mr. Blake was given a vote of thanks.
