THEFT AT GRAVESIDE.
LADY'S . HANDBAG STOLEN.
ONE MONTH'S HARD LABOUR.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, this day.
"When a man commits theft such as this there is only one way to deal with him. One month's imprisonment with hard labour," said Mr. Moslev, S.M., in sentencing Stanley Robert Webber in the Magistrate's Court to-day. "This is a case of theft from a graveside at Bromley Cemetery," stated SubInspector Fitzpatrick. Webber was charged that on July 5 he stole a lady's handbag and its contents, of the total value of £2, the property of Ruth Shanahan. The magistrate said that accused had already had a fairly long tem of probation, and it did not seem to have done bini much good.
