CASH-ON-DELIVERY SYSTEM.
EXTSHSXOH REFUSED.
FARMERS' UNION REQUEST
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
The Postmaster-General has declined to introduce the cash*on-delivery system in the inland postal services, as requested by the New Zealand Farmers' Union.
"This has been considered *>n several occasions, and each time it has been deemed to be inexpedient, owing to the steady improvement in transport facilities/' Mr. Nosworthy says in a letter to the Farmers' Union. ''Any need there may be for an inland system is likely to decline rather than to grow. "Country people nowadays find little difficulty in paying a visit to the nearest business centre, and when they do not wish to visit the centre they can obtain delivery of the goods by mail within a day or two after placing their order. The advantage, therefore, of being able to pay for goods on delivery, instead of having to pay for them on placing the order, would be so small that I think your committee will agree that the introduction of an inland system would add but little to the value of the postal: facilities." i
