VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB

DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES

The Victoria Cruising Clnb held a social last evening in Scots' Hall, Symonds Street, when the prizes 'won in the club's harbour and cruising races last season were presented to the winners by Mr. Ernest Davis, patron. The social hall was prettily decorated, the club's colours, red and black, predominating. There was a very large attendance of members and their lady friends, also representatives from nearly all the sister clubs in the Wnitrmata and Manukau, including Commodore ,1. W. Frater. Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Commodore C. J. Collings, New Zealand Power Boat Association: Commodore T. L. Thompson, Richmond Cruising Club: Commodore R. I'idgard, Bayswater Boating Club; Commodore W. A. Wilkinson. Tamaki Yacht Club; Rear-Commodore J. McWhirter. Ponsonbv Cruising Club, and representatives from" Akarana, Devonport, Point Chevalier and Manukau Clubs. The prizes, which included five caps and a fine array of other trophies, were arranged near the stage, the handsome Upton Cup being the eentre piece, kindly lent for the occasion by the Ponsonby Cruising Club. During an interval Mr. W. L. Casey, president, congratulated Commodore E. Griffiths, his officers and members on the fine display of trophies, and said that he was pleased to see that in Bpite of having to remove the clubhouse and other unusual items of expense, the prise-list was just as big as ever this year. The racing had been keen, Alerte winning the Ansae Cup for the highest number of points. Wairiki and Starloch were level on points for the aggregate cup for the big boats. The Speight Cup for the 26-footer crossing the starting line first in all races was won by Starloch. Mr. Casey welcomed the visitors and called on Mr. Ernest Davis to present the prises. The following were the principal winners :—Boonstra Memorial Cup, Alerte; Casey Cup, Starlight: Rae Cup, Leveret ; Mackay Memorial Shield and Surf dale Shield, Starloch. Opening day, launches, Irene, 1*; keel yachts. Colonist, 1; H class, Why Not; L class, Valeria.; C class, W4nif red ; S class. Mistral; M class, Mawhiti ; V class, Drone; T, X and Y classes, Alerte. Races to Surf dale; Keel yachts,- Wairiki; H class, Starloch; L class. Walma. Final cruise: Launches, Pierette; keelers, Wairiki; H class, Spray; L and N classes, Waima; S class, Almira; Y class. Leveret; M class, Maratea; T, X and x classes, Marie; Z class. Delphine. Regatta prices, paid in cash, were as follows: Launches. Phyllis; keel yachts, Ngahau; il class. Why Not; L class, Koklri; N class, Wairere; V class. Drone: M class, Maratea; S class. Swiftsure; T class, Alerte ; T, X and T classes. Joan. After supper, dancing was continued till a late hour to the music of the Savoyan orchestra. All arrangements were carried out successfully under the direction of the honorary secretary, Mr. i. McGebaa.
