WOMAN DROWNED.
CAR PLUNGEB INTO STREAM.
MAN CLINGS TO TREE.

HAWEKA, Monday,
A former resident of Wauganui, -Mrs. J. McL'allum, believed to have been drowned at about three o'clock this afternoon as a result of a motor car in which she was riding plunging into the Manuwapou Stream, which borders the main south road seven miles from Hawera. The car was being driven from Patea to Hawera by Mrs. MeCuHum's husband, who is a commercial traveller. Just after crossing the bridge a skid causeil the vehicle to plunge down a 40ft bank into the stream. It was submerged in loft of water. Both the occupants were apparently thrown out. Mr. McCallum was rescued after clinging to a tree in the stream, but when darkness fell no sign of his wife had been found. NO TRACE OF BODY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HAWERA, this day. The search for Mrs. McKJallum was resumed at daylight this morning. A large party dragged the river, which is swollen with flood waters. At midday no trace had been found of the missing woman.
