PAEROA DEFENCE CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, Wednesday. . Paeroa TDefence Rifle Clnb, which has heen formed this year, is making rood progress, and has enrolled several members who show Promise. The energetic secretary lg 5 Slmmonds, ex-champion rifle shot of the Dominion.. . „ TM? afternoon the clnb carried out Its first shoot on the ranee in connection with the series of competitions to be held. The conditions were seven shots each at 200 and 300 yards. The first prise was won by Ttlflernftn Roy Wells, who tied with Rifleman P. Helling with a score of 66, including handicap. Wells having the best score at the longer distance, won the count back. Helling took second prise. ;—Rifleman Roy Wells, 35 at ynrds. 27 at 300 yards (handicap 4), total 66; Rifleman F. Helling, 33, 23 (10) j 06; Rifleman H. Simmonds. 34. 31 (scr), 05; Rifleman P. R. Hubbard, 31, 2« (6). 63; Rifleman Fred Hubbard. 29. 27 (3) B»; Rifleman W. A. Reid. 2K. 20 (8). ss! Three others failed to qualltfv. Wells is the first member of the club to register a possible in clnb competition, and received applause from his clabipates. A further trophy competition will be fired for on Saturday.
