MAIN HIGHWAYS.
COX STRUCTIOX AL REPORT. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. The engineer's report to the Main Highways Board at its meeting thi» week indicated progress in road improvement in all parts of the Dominion, and included the following details:— Kawakawa-Mangamuka.—Rangiahua-Mangamuka Section: Between «ix miles 4(5 chains and seven miles 17 chains bottom course of river shingle has been spread and rolled. From eight miles 70 chains to 10 miles four chains two coats of metalling with river shingle have been completed.
Mangamuka-Te Karae.—Metalling with two coats of river shingle has been completed with the exception o f about three chains at the bad point at 42 chains. Maungatapere-Kaikohe. — XaikoheMangakahia Section: 173 chains of this road has been finally surfaced with gravel.
Awarua Gorge Section.—Five chains of this road has been widened in rock.
Auckland-Wainui. —Birkenhead Albany Section: Reformation work has been completed to four miles 20 chains and base course metalling has been extended to two miles 35 chains. Between 76 chains and one mile 52 chains the road has been surfaced with bitumen.
Matamata-Tauranga. — Tauranga County Section: All bottom course metalling has been completed with the exception of 54 chains from the top of the Omanawa Hill towards Ruahihi Bridge.
Tauranga-Waihi.—Bottom course metalling on the Corkscrew Hill and the 15-mile deviation has been completed. Second course metalling is in hand.
Whakatane-Rotorua. — WhakataneRotoma Section: Metalling has been com. menced on the Edgecumbe and the Te Teko sections.
