THEATRE FOR MOUNT EDEN.

XOVXX BUILDING PLAICNED. CITY HOUSE ALSO SUGGESTED. Already the controllers of five theatres in the city and suburbs, Hippodrdme Theatres, Ltd., intend to erect a large modern picture house at the Mount Kden tram terminus. When this scheme is completed, there will be a theatre at almost every tram terminus in Auckland. Two blocks of land have been secured, providing a section sloping down a little from Mount Eden Road, and the theatre which is to be built will cost about £15,000. The slope of the one floor on which it will be built will do away with the necessity for a dress circle. Inside, the house will be 150 feet long and 63 feet wide. In front, there will be an entrance 30 feet wide, with a shop on either side. A stage, 30 feet wide and 20 feet deep is provided for in the plans. There will be no stairs in the theatre, and the single sloping floor will be a novelty as far as Auckland is concerned, although this feature is quite common in other countries.

Work will start almost immediately, under Mr. X. Cole, contractor.

Dr. F. J. Rayner, chairman of directors, Hippodrome Theatres, Ltd., said that his firm intended to build six modern theatres in different parts of New Zealand this year. One of these would be in Auckland city, but Dr. Rayner said that he is not prepared to make any announcement as to the probable site.
