VALEDICTORY.

WHANGAREI, this day.
Mr. E. H. Gibson, assistant engineer of the Public Works Department, who had charge of the construction of the Waiotira-Kirikopuni section of the North Auckland railway, and has been appointed to take charge of construction works at Westfield, was on Saturday night farewelled by a large number of Public Works officers, including representatives of Okaihau and Pukehuia.
Mr. J. MajEnnis, district engineer, presided, and paid a tribute to Mr. Gibson's worth as an engineer. On behalf of the officers he presented Mr. Gibson with a solid leather portmanteau.
