MEDAL FOR AUCKLANDER
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Monday.
Joseph Henry Anderson, of Auckland, is to be awarded the bronze medal of the Royal Humane Society for his brave action on January 5. The medal will be publicly presented to Mr. Anderson by the Mavor.
Mr. and Mrs. Mulvaney, of Auckland, were with a picnic party on the bank of the Wanganui River when two children got into difficulties. Mr. Mulvaney went out to save a boy, but was caught in the current and was drowned, his body being later found with the boy clasped in his arms. Mr. Anderson was unable to rescue Mr. Mulvaney, but pulled out two others who were also in difficulties.
