DISMISSED WORKERS.

FRANKTON HOUSE FACTORY.

GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE.

TRYING TO FIND OTHER WORK.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

HAMILTON, this day.

Mr. Lee Martin, M.P., yesterday sent a telegram to Mr. Coates, protesting against the dismissal of employees l'rom the Frankton house factorv.

In his reply Mr. Coates says the Government is making every possible effort to absorb the men thrown out of employment on account of lack of work at the house factory, and special steps are being taken to find work, particularly for married men.

Mr. Martin said that while he agreed it would represent an economic waste to keep men on the pay-roll with no work, it would not be more wasteful than spending large sums on relief work. It was also an economic waste to have a huge factory and a plant in which many thousands of pounds was sunk, lying idle.
