Work at Mechanics' Bay. Mr. Holderness said that additional piles had been driven in the breastwork at Mechanics' Bay, the work having been commenced on account of delay on the Devonport wharf. Arrangements were being made to commence placing selected lilling behind the wall. Excellent progress was being made with the suction dredge on the Western reclamation, and the quantity of solid material pumped ashore for the three months ended April 4 was 106,500 cubic yards. In addition to this approximately 8500 cubic yards of material had been dumped from the shore. Effect of Gale. Referring to the recent gale, Mr. Holderness said that it caused a few washouts in the embankment on the western waterfront and these had since been repaired. No other material damage was done to the board's property or plant. The intense force of the wind on the steel rolling shutters on Prince s wharf sheds had causcd them to bulge and in one instance tore the shutter out of its guides.
