THREE YOUNG MEN CHARGED

LENIENT SENTENCES IMPOSED.

Three young men pleaded guilty this morning before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M at Onehunga with the theft of goods valued at £2 from Messrs. Kemp Brothers' store in Mangere on April 13 The original charge of breaking and" entering was reduced to one of common theft with the consent of Sergeant J. A. Cruickshank, who prosecuted. One of the accused was represented by Mr. R. A. Singer, and another by Mr. E. W. Inder, both of whom asked that the names of their clients might be suppressed. After hearing the evidence Mr. Cutten granted the request and also extended the same leniencv to the third man.

Theie were two other charges against the third man, one being damages to Kemps shop window to the extent of ' an <L t i le other th e theft of goods worth £3 from Payne Brothers' premises at Mangere.

Sergeant J. A. Cruickshank said all three youths had frankly admitted their guilt.

In pleading for leniency on behalf of nis client, Mr. Singer said accused had not taken any part in the theft from Kemp's store other than supplying his companions with a torch and some tools. M_ r - Cutten did not enter a conviction against the fourth, but ordered him to pay £2 10/ costs.

Mr. Inder's-client was granted probation for six months and ordered to pav £3 10/ costs.

The young inan. who pleaded jruilty to three charges, and had been in gaol for seven days, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence in two months.

Sergeant Cruickshank said there was nothing known against him, and all goods taken from Payne's premises had been recovered.
