A DRUG FIEND.

STOLE FROM A CHURCH.

TO GO TO ROTOROA.

To three charges of having obtained quantities of morphia by falsely representing that he was the son of a wellknown medical man, and another charge of stealing a money box containing £4 from a church, Bernard Lux, a young man, pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning.

Mr. Conlan, who appeared for Lux, described the case as a most unfortunate one. Lux had undergone half a dozen serious operations, with the result that he was now a drug fiend. Counsel suggested that the only thing that could be done with him would be to send him to Rotoroa. In twelve months time, when he showed improvement, it was the intention of his relatives to send him to a farm on Norfolk Island.

Chief Detective Hammond said that the money box had been recovered. It was taken %om accused after he had stolen it. Lux had previously served two years' reformative detention. He had obtained the morphia by falsely stating that he was a son of a doctor.

The magistrate, Mr. ¥. K. Hunt, told counsel that the Court could not send him to Rotoroa Island, which would be the best place for him. The case was adjourned for a week to enable accused to make his own application to go to Roto Ra.
