MR. ALFRED J. SISAM.

VETERAN OF MAORI WAR.

AN ALBERTLAND SETTLER,

One of the Albertland settlers, who arrived in Auckland by the Matilda Wattenbach in 1862, and a veteran of the war with the Maoris, died on Saturday at his home, Mount Eden, Mr. Alfred John Sisam joined the Defence Force under Colonel Nixon in 1863, and saw considerable service for the next fifteen months taking part in several engagements with the Maoris. Later he joined the Armed Constabulary, serving with that body for 18 years. He next was farming at Whakatane, and ten years ago came to Auckland to live. Mrs. Sisam died some years ago. There are three sons and four daughters. Messrs. L. and W. Sisam are farming at Whakatane, and Mr. Kenneth Sisam gained a Rhodes scholarship. The (laughters aie Mrs. J. C. Lamont, Mrs. E. O. Von Sturmer, and Miss E. M. Sisam, of Auckland, and Mrs. W. P. Browne, of Whakatane. The interment took place yesterday at Hillsboro' Cemetery.
