ALLEGED GAMING HOUSE.
(By Tejegraph—Special to "Star.")
STRATFORD, Saturday.
There was a considerable stir in Stratford this afternoon as the result of an arrest about 2 o'clock, when there were a great many people about, and the operations of the police naturally attracted a good deal of attention.
As the result of a raid by Detective Meiklejohn, Sergeant Rowell, and Constable Small, of New Plymouth, Ernest Alexander Johnston, tobacconist, was taken into custody, along with three other persons, found in his company. Johnston and others appeared later at the Court before Mr. Wilson, J.P., and were remanded on bail till June 1. Johnston is charged with being the keeper of a common gaming house, and the others with being found in a common gaming house.
