A DUAL ENGAGEMENT.
HORSES ENTERED FOR NORTHERN
DOUBLE.
With an entry of 41 for the Great Northern Hurdles and 33 for the Steeplechase, the Auckland handicapper, Mr. F. J. McManemin has ample material to work upon in providing a problem for those people who essay to pick the double. With practically all the best jumpers of the North Island and a sprinkling of South Island horses entered the big winter double at Ellerslie promises to be of the same high standard which has obtained for many years, and the handicaps, which are due to make their appearance about Friday of next week, will be awaited with more than passing interest. Ever since El Gallo two years in succession captured the double, and Lochella and Sir Rosebery also carried off both Hurdles and Steeplechase in the same year, there has been a tendency to look for a horse capable of capturing both events. Those who favour this will find plenty to work upon, as no less than 25 horses have dual engagements. They are Archibald, Aberfeldy, Black Cruiser, Brigadier Bill, Beau Cavalier, Braeman, Comical, Desert Glow, Dick, Gaze, Glenotus, Kendal, Maunga, Mangani, Ngata, Panorama, Pouri, Perle de Leon, Revel; Royal Form, Uralla, Vexatious, Wiltshire, Wedding March, Zircon.
