STOREY MEMORIAL CUP.
VALKON MAY BE THE FAVOURITE
An acceptance of 17 for the Storey Memorial Cup, the principal item at Te Rapa next Saturday, must be considered quite satisfactory, and, with all but two trained in the Auckland Province, there is plenty of local flavour about the race. The brilliant Aussie has been allowed to stand his ground, and it will be his first attempt to compass twelve furlongs in a race. That he is one of the best in the land, at least up to a mile, he has demonstrated very forcibly, but with 9.7 to carry he Is going to be well tested over a mile and a-quarter. Horses with the brilliancy of Aussie very often fail at anything more than a mile, but, of eouiw/lM'tttjftc ons of the exceptions, ai galloping seems to come easy to him. Eden Hall, BJ«Js consistent but a trifle unlucky, and though he has won his share of races, he has just been touched off on numerous other occasions. Still, he should he. in the picture at the end. Valkon is another consistent sort, and, with 8.2, he should be the favourite. He ran a fine race in the A.R.C. Easter Handicap, when he finished just behind the placed horses, and at Avondale last week,' with ordinary luck, he would have won on the second day. Town Bank has shown a return to form, and has a chance with 7.13, but Branson failed on the second day at Avondale, and he should be held safe by Valkon. Le Choucas, who, like Eden Hall, is in J. T. Jamieson's team, is right at. the top of his form, but Valkon should be able to give him 51b. Transformer's form would not give him a chance, and Stormy not likely to appeal. The big trade will suit Princess Ronnie, as she invariably takes time to settle down to her work. With 7.9 the little bay mare is a possibility. Corinax, 7.4, should go well, but none of the others appears to have a chance. There will be another opportunity of running, through the list again on Friday, but at present two who should appeal are: VALKON TOWN BANK.
