TAKAPUNA'S FINANCES.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS.

A summary of accounts for the year ended March 31 was given by the Mayor of Takapuna (Mr. J. W. Williamson) at a meeting of the council last evening. It was stated that rumours of Takapuna being hard-up were not infrequently heard, and it was desirable that ratepayers should be siipplied with details of the borough's financial position. Particulars of the statement are a» follow:—District fund account: Receipts (exclusive of loans, £64.885: expenditure (exclusive of loans), £61,670; credit on year's working, £3215. At-th(j beginning of the year, however, there had been a debit balance of £5488, so that there was still a debit balance of £§273.

Arrears of rates had been estimated to yield £3000, of which £2991 had been paid. Details of 1927-28 rates were as follow: Estimated consolidated rates £40.500; amount paid, £34,064 (84 per cent); estimated sanitarv charges. £2250; amount paid, £1937 (86 per cent); estimated refuse charges, £1000; amount paid, £921 (92 ner cent). On account of rebate of rates, interest cm overdraft for the Second six months of the year amounted to only £16 16/.

Loans. —Receipts, £30,170; expend! ture, £37,162.
